Welcome! This portfolio shares stories and work from my experiences as a Public Health Nurse.

I was born and raised in Alaska and have a diverse background in nursing across the globe.

For the past 13 years, I have supported health and nursing initiatives across the lifespan in many non-traditional healthcare settings. Drawing from my background serving remote villages and rural communities, my experiences supporting Alaska Native communities has reinforced my desire to understand the relationships of historical traumas as they intersect with contemporary healthcare disparities.

As a nurse leader, I manage cohorts of learners to accomplish strategic planning from start to finish and I have created professional development series while evaluating their impact and significance. In public schools, I have used evidence-based material and current research to advance modules on sexual and reproductive health. In community and system settings, I teach in prisons, educate politicians, support teachers, farmers, and fellow healthcare professionals. I continue to design and participate in efforts that successfully provide innovative healthcare, like vaccine delivery in geographically isolated communities.

My experiences have expanded my skills in problem analysis to artfully design mechanisms of change, especially in rural communities with limited resources. I am dedicated to the continuous studies of contemporary paradigm shifts in healthcare delivery as they address social determinants of health and increase health access for historically marginalized populations.

I am inspired to provide collaborative consultation and engage with learning opportunities that use social change to respond to health equity initiatives. Irrespective of an individual’s class status or their relative proximity to healthcare resources, I am eager to transform care that improves health outcomes.

The Communities Public Health Nurses Serve Across Alaska

image.png

Alaska has 16 Public Health Centers across the state.

Each region is represented by a different color

and within each region, Itinerant Public Health Nurses travel by

small plane, boat, and other transportation means

to reach rural and remote communities

that are not serviced by a physical public health center.

Alaskan Itinerant Public Health Nurses actively partner with individuals, communities, and systems to reduce disease and improve health outcomes across the rural and remote communities that are represented in the 663,300 square land miles and 46,600 coastal miles (NOAA, 2024).
Almost 21 percent of the 732,673 residents are Alaska Native
(Alaska Federation of Natives, 2024).
